Foreign Minister Stresses on India-Seychelles Strategic Partnership

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stresses to further resolve and enhance the India-Seychelles strategic partnership in the post-COVID-19 era.
After Jaishankar’s visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), he visited Seychelles and held high-level talks with the country’s leadership. He also visited Bahrain as a part of three-nation tour during his November 27-28 visit to the key Indian Ocean nation, which began on Tuesday.
During his two-day visit, he called on newly elected Indian-origin Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan on Friday and congratulated him on his electoral victory. During the meeting, Jaishankar and Ramkalawan discussed the historical neighbourly relationship of both countries. The external affairs minister also recalled Ramkalawan’s visit to India in January 2018 and expressed confidence that under his leadership, India-Seychelles ties would develop even further.
Ramkalwan appreciated India’s assistance during the pandemic in the form of medical and critical drug supplies. He also valued the development and security ties between both the countries and said that it will have a positive impact on nation-building in Seychelles. Jaishankar also carried a personal message from PM Narendra Modi and conveyed an invitation from the Indian leadership to Seychelles President Ramkalawan for visiting India in 2021.
