Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to India decreases to USD 40 billion in 2017, from USD 44 billion in the previous year.
UNCTAD’S World Investment Report 2018 stated, “FDI inflows to South Asia contracted by 4% to USD 52 billion, owing to a drop in inflows to India.” Cross-border M&A sales, increased from USD 8 billion to USD 23 billion, as a result of few large deals in extractive and technology related industries.
Further, as per the report, outflows from India, the main source of FDI in South Asia, more than doubled to USD 11 billion.
