Electronics production in the country is expected to reach $300 billion by 2026, industry body India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) said in a statement. The National Policy on Electronics (NPE) 2019 had set a target of getting a turnover of $400 billion by 2025. But, the industry will not be able to achieve the target due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “The NPE 2019 targets for electronics production in the year 2025-26 at $300 billion is more realistic considering the Covid-19 disruption pandemic in the last 18 months, which has been supported with the new variants of the Covid-19 virus,” the ICEA said.
The ICEA Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo, while sharing the details of the report, said that the lessen target still aims for a 400 per cent rise from the current level, which will need significant and influential policy initiatives and efforts to create a conducive electronics manufacturing ecosystem. “If India can achieve the manufacturing target of $300 billion for electronics, the local market demand can be met in full by such manufacturing. This clarifies that $120 billion worth of electronic products will be needed to be exported to the global market,” the report added.
