Discoms’ Dues to Power Producers Rise 28% in September

Power generation firms’ outstanding dues owed by distribution companies (discoms) rose 28 per cent on year-on-year (YoY) basis to Rs 1,38,479 crore in September, 2020.
Discoms owed a total of Rs 1,07,930 crore to power producers’ in September 2019, according to the portal PRAAPTI (Payment Ratification And Analysis in Power procurement for bringing Transparency in Invoicing of generators).
In May 2018, the PRAAPTI portal was launched for bringing transparency in the power purchasing transactions between the power generating firms and discoms. According to the data on portal, the outstanding dues in the September month are also increased on a month-on-month basis.
As on August 2020, the total outstanding dues of discoms were Rs 1,34,928 crore. The overdue amount in September increased from Rs 1,22,090 crore in that of August 2020.
The total overdue amount was not cleared In September 2020, after the 45 days grace period offered by the power generating firms which stood at Rs 1,26,661 crore as compared to Rs 85,790 crore in the year–ago period.
