In August 2022, India’s overall coal production grew by 8.27Per Cent to 58.33 Million Tonnes (MT), up from 53.88 MT in the corresponding month the previous year, bucking the norm of production declines during monsoon months.
According to the Ministry of Coal’s preliminary figures, Coal India Ltd (CIL) and captive mines/others produced 46.22 MT and 8.02 MT, respectively, in August 2022, representing growth of 8.49 per cent and 27.06 per cent. SCCL, on the other hand, reported a negative growth of 17.49 per cent for the month.
According to a statement from the coal ministry, of the top 37 coal-producing mines in the nation, 25 mines generated more than 100per cent, and five mines produced between 80per cent and 100per cent.
In addition, compared to the same period the year before, coal despatch grew by 5.41per cent to 63.43 MT in August 2022. By shipping 51.12 MT and 8.28 MT, respectively, in August 2022, CIL and captive/others registered a growth of 5.11per cent and 26.29per cent.
Due to an increase in power demand, the despatch of power utilities increased by 10.84 per cent to 54.09 MT in August 2022 from 48.80 MT in August 2021.
