On Monday, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana opened a state-of-the-art in-house studio, ‘Face-2-Face’ at Jai Singh Marg’s headquarters to unveil the force’s Social Media Cell (SMC).
Officials said that Delhi Police has set up the SMC to host podcasts, live Twitter meetings, panel discussions, press conferences, and fight fake news. Speaking on occasion, Asthana emphasised the importance of communication in today’s networked society. He said that fighting fake news is just as important as spreading real facts in the public sphere.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (PRO) Sumannarva said the police set up the SMC to spread quickly in an emergency such as violence, fire, building collapse, bomb threat or other such emergency information.
