Confident in pursuing an expansion plan, multiplex operator Inox Leisure has a pipeline of 834 additional screens after FY23. This was revealed in the annual report of the company. Currently, the movie theatre chain operates 692 screens in 73 cities across India. It, however, estimates the total screen count to go up to 752 by the end of the ongoing fiscal year, even though the exhibition industry was impacted due to COVID-induced restrictions.
The company said that INOX has innovated in the space of alternate content to offer unique experiences, and the introduction of Esports into cinemas is an opportunity to offer an alternate content experience. It is noteworthy that Inox Leisure has tied up with ICC to screen live matches at selected INOX cinemas.
Earlier in March, the company had announced a merger with PVR. It is, however, subject to the receipt of regulatory approvals, including from NCLT, SEBI and others.
Founded by Pavan Jain in 1999, Inox has about 163 properties with 692 screens. It has a total seating capacity of 1.55 lakh. Headquartered in Mumbai, its operations revenue was Rs 677.87 crore in FY22.
