On Thursday, Nasdaq-listed Cognizant Technology Solutions said it had appointed Ravi Kumar S as chief executive officer and board member, effective immediately. Kumar will succeed Brian Humphries in both positions. To facilitate a smooth transition, Humphries will remain as a special advisor to the company until March 15, 2023.
Before Cognizant, Kumar spent 20 years at Infosys, where he held various leadership roles, most recently as President from January 2016 to October 2022. In this role, he leads the Infosys Global Services organisation across all industry segments globally, driving the Digital Transformation Services, Consulting Services, Technology Services, Engineering Services, Data & Analytics, Cloud & Infrastructure, and Enterprise Pack Application service lines.
In addition, he leads the Business Process Management (BPM) department and serves as the Chairman of the Infosys BPM Board. He is responsible for Infosys’ business operations in India, Latin America, Japan and China. He also manages Infosys Public Services and Infosys Consulting Services subsidiaries. Kumar is also responsible for leading the Manufacturing Group’s global delivery organisation.
The company also announced that Stephen J Rohleder, a Cognizant’s Board of Directors member since March 2022, has been elected Chairman of the Board. Former chairman Michael Patsalos-Fox will remain on the board as an independent director.
Cognizant previously announced that Kumar would join the company as president of Cognizant Americas. Regarding the CEO transition, Cognizant also announced that Surya Gummadi had been named President of Cognizant Americas. Gummadi has been with Cognizant for 24 years and has served in this position on an interim basis since July 2022, having previously served as senior vice president of Cognizant’s Health Sciences business unit.
Kumar holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Shivaji University and an MBA from Xavier Institute of Management, India.
