CNG prices in the capital rose by Rs 2 per kilo, the 12th increase in more than two months. According to information published on Indraprastha Gas Ltd’s (IGL) website, which retails CNG and pipeline gas in the capital, CNG prices in the Indian capital Delhi are currently at Rs 73.61 per kg up from Rs 71.61 per kg.
This is the 12th price increase since March 7. During this period, CNG prices have risen by Rs 17.6 per kg. This includes a rise of Rs 7.50 per kg only in April. All in all, CNG prices rose by Rs 17.6 per kg during the period. Last year, prices rose by Rs 30.21 per kg, or 60 per cent, according to data compiled by PTI. However, the home kitchen gas rate known as Piped Natural Gas (PNG) remains unchanged at Rs 45.86 per SCM.
Since October, city gas distributors have been raising prices as domestic and international gas prices climbed as the global economy recovered from a pandemic-induced slowdown. Prices rose by Rs 8.74 per kg in the last three months of 2021 and have risen almost steadily since January to around 50 paise per week.
Prices rose after the government more than doubled the price of natural gas to $6.1 per million British thermal units from April 1. Compressed natural gas becomes CNG, used as a fuel for automobiles. The same gas is transported into home kitchens and industry for cooking and other uses.
Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has priced Mumbai’s compressed natural gas (CNG) at Rs 76 per kg. Prices vary by city, depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT. The rise in CNG prices comes after petrol and diesel prices rose by Rs 10 per litre for 16 consecutive days, and gas LPG prices rose by Rs 100 per cylinder.
