China announced a relaxation of its visa-free transit policy on Tuesday, extending the stay for eligible foreign travellers to 10 days from the previous 72-144 hours.
China has extended its visa-free transit policy, allowing eligible foreign travellers from 54 countries to stay for up to 10 days (240 hours) instead of the previous 72-144 hours.
The new measure, effective immediately, applies to travellers transiting from China to a third country through 60 open ports in 24 provinces.
Since reopening its borders in 2023 after the COVID-19 lockdown, China has waived visa requirements to encourage more foreign visitors.
In November, China also extended its visa-free policy to 38 countries, including Spain, Singapore, and the Netherlands, allowing stays of up to 30 days for business, tourism, and other purposes.
In the third quarter of 2024, China saw 8.2 million inbound trips, with over half facilitated by the visa-free policy, marking a 78.6% year-over-year increase.
