According to Chinese state media, China and Indonesia signed $10 billion worth of deals at the Indonesia-China Business Forum in Beijing on Sunday, covering sectors like food, new energy, technology, and biotechnology.
The forum followed a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who visited China until 10th November.
Prabowo, who won Indonesia’s presidential election in February, chose China as his first visit as president, highlighting Jakarta’s focus on strengthening ties with Beijing.
In a joint statement, China and Indonesia agreed to strengthen collaboration in new energy vehicles, lithium batteries, photovoltaics, and the digital economy.
They also committed to enhancing the global energy transition partnership and securing the supply of minerals and industrial chains.
On Sunday, Chinese battery materials producer GEM and PT Vale Indonesia signed a deal to build a high-pressure acid leaching plant in Central Sulawesi to secure nickel resources, with Prabowo witnessing the signing.
China dominates Indonesia’s nickel industry, with companies like Tsingshan Holding Group and Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt leading the market.
Indonesian tech firm GoTo Gojek Tokopedia signed agreements with China’s Tencent and Alibaba to develop Indonesia’s cloud infrastructure and digital talent.
The two countries will introduce visa measures, such as multi-entry long-term visas, and promote more direct flights based on demand.
Other agreements signed during Prabowo’s visit include housing collaborations and the exporting of fresh coconuts from Indonesia to China.
