The first Economic Survey of Modi-led NDA 2.0 will be tabled in the Parliament today on 4th July 2019. Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) Krishnamurthy Subramanian is the man behind the steering wheel and has prepared the Economic Survey (2019-2020). The CEA tweeted optimistically saying, “Looking forward with excitement to table my first – and the new Government’s first – Economic Survey in Parliament on Thursday. #EcoSurvey2019.”
The Economic Survey is an annual document released by the Ministry of  Finance and is presented a day before the Union Budget, every year. In the document, the Government of India reviews the economy of the country over the past year and the current financial year.
What does the survey consist of?
The survey consists of detailed data on the macroeconomy as well as the various sectors of the economy. The Economic Survey acts as a guideline for the Union Budget as it also includes policy ideas, key statistics on economic parameters. It also contains in-depth research on a macro and sector-wise trends in the economy.
These recommendations do not bound the government to follow them and it only serves as a policy guide. The government may or may not include these recommendations while preparing the budget. Though the government pays close attention to the data, on several occasions, policy changes recommended in the Economic Survey have not been seen in Budget proposals.

Where to watch/read Economic Survey?
The Economic Survey will be tabled in the Parliament on Thursday. It will be broadcast live on Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha channels. The Economic Survey 2019 can also be downloaded in pdf format. The survey will be available for download after it’s been presented in the Parliament.
