India’s antitrust regulator Competition Commission of India (CCI), has sought a detailed report from app developers to explain the impact of Google’s payment policies and suggest an alternative payment tool. CCI is investigating Google for alleged unfair business practices with Google Pay and Google Play’s payment system.

Indian app developers have raised concerns over the 30 per cent commission charged by Google for paid apps and in-app purchases. The matter will be taken to court after the director general’s probe report. The CCI is expected to pass its order by February-end. Google has defended its policy before the CCI, saying its terms are fair and provide a competitive environment to users. The CCI is examining Google’s request and investigating reports and comments it has got from different companies, startups, and platforms.
