CBDT Refunds Rs 1.54 Lakh Crores to 1.59 Crores Taxpayers

Maharashtra was the state that provided the most to income tax receipts in FY24.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued more than Rs 1,54,302 Crores to over 1.59 crore taxpayers from April 1 to January 10, the Income Tax Department said in a statement. “Income tax refunds of Rs 53,689 crore have been issued in 1,56,57,444 cases, and corporate tax refunds of Rs 1,00,612 crore have been issued in 2,21,976 cases,” the Income Tax Department said on Twitter.


“This includes 1.20 crore refunds of FY 2021-22 amounting to Rs. 23,406.28 crore. On January 5, the department said it had issued refunds of more than Rs 1.50 lakh crore this fiscal year. This includes 1.1 crore refunds of the assessment year 2021-22 amounting to Rs 21,323.55 crore,” it added.


The deadline to file income tax returns in audit cases for the assessment year 2021-22 has been extended till March 15, 2022, while the last day for submitting tax audit reports has been extended till February 15, 2022. The CBDT was declared on 11th January. The deadline for filing tax was earlier fixed on January 15, 2022.
