The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won Uttar Pradesh, and Yogi Adityanath is all set to become the first Chief Minister to return to power in the state after completing a five-year period.
In his speech after the election results were announced he highlighted the main reason behind his party’s repeat win. “The BJP’s double engine government, in the last five years, has created an atmosphere of security and given respect to faith,” he said.
PM Narendra Modi also thanked the voters for their mandate in favour of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh and three other states and described it as “jeet ka chauka”. Saying that the results proves BJP’s pro-poor and proactive governance, Modi added that the festival of Holi has begun with BJP’s win in the assembly polls.The BJP has won 255 seats, while its rival Samajwadi Party has won 111 seats and the Congress won only 2 seats, according to the Election Commission (EC) website.
