BigEndian Semiconductors Secured USD 3 Million Funding from Vertex Ventures SEA & India

The funding will expand the company's engineering team, improve research and development capabilities, and increase its operational scale.

BigEndian Semiconductors, a startup specializing in semiconductor design without manufacturing facilities, has secured a USD 3 million investment in a funding round led by Vertex Ventures SEA & India. The funding will expand the company’s engineering team, improve research and development capabilities, and increase its operational scale.

Sunil Kumar, the CEO, expressed the company’s intention to capitalize on local consumption and leverage various opportunities, including government initiatives, venture capital funding, and the current global geopolitical climate, positioning themselves as a viable option for providing high-quality semiconductor solutions worldwide, according to an Economic Times report.

Established in 2024 by Kumar, Renuka Prasad, Harpreet Wadhawan, Dinesh Annayya, Kanagaraju Ponnusamy, and Jansen Cheng, the Bangalore-based startup aims to create indigenous semiconductor intellectual property in India and introduce its surveillance system-on-chip (SoC) solution. The company currently has approximately 18 employees.

Kumar emphasised their goal of initially introducing a Make in India lion symbol chipset manufactured and designed in India, projecting notable revenue by 2026. The company plans to commence operations in India and later expand into the Global South, with further plans to enter developed markets like Europe and the US.

Furthermore, Kumar highlighted that the first chipset will predominantly target the Global South due to the need to advance up the value chain when entering more developed markets, particularly in AI inference engine chipsets to provide enhanced machine learning and computational power at the edge, among other features.

Regarding the investment, Ben Mathias, managing partner of Vertex Ventures SEA & India, stated that reorganising electronic supply chains provides a unique opportunity for India to emerge as a global leader in semiconductor technology. He also noted that the startup’s approach to developing a surveillance SoC aligns well with the increasing global demand for sophisticated security solutions.
