Assam, Mizoram Refuse to Honour Summons

Tensions arise between Assam and Mizoram as both states refused to honour summons to each other’s officials after a border conflict in which 6 Assam Police persons were killed in firing and clashes.

The development comes after a 19-member all-party delegation of the Assam assembly, headed by Speaker Biswajit Daimary, and requested the Centre to resolve the state’s boundary conflict with Mizoram at the earliest. “It was decided that an all-party delegation will reach the central government and request them to resolve the border dispute at the earliest as well as guarantee that the constitutional boundaries were maintained,” an official release stated.

The delegation members commonly decided to support the Assam government to protect the border amid the ongoing disputes to secure the state’s citizens. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also requested an independent inquiry after Mizoram Police filed an FIR against him and six other officials.”It is childish of Mizoram, but the place where the conflicts happened belongs to Assam. So the jurisdiction falls under Assam Police. But now, since both states register cases, I feel both governments should hand the topic to the CBI or NIA,” CM Biswa said.
