India’s second-largest commercial vehicle maker, Ashok Leyland, bagged defence orders worth Rs 800 crore from the Indian armed forces, the company announced in an exchange filing.
The truck and bus maker is the largest supplier of logistics vehicles to the Indian Army, it mentioned in the release.
The awarded orders include contracts for making specialised vehicles for towing light and medium guns, namely the Field Artillery Tractor (FAT 4×4) and the Gun Towing Vehicle (GTV 6×6), respectively. Both were featured in the initial positive indigenisation list the Government of India announced. The orders will be delivered over the next 12 months.
Shares of Ashok Leyland were trading 0.76% higher at Rs 173 after hitting a new 52-week high during the day.
Ashok Leyland has indigenously designed, developed and manufactured a range of mobility platforms, including 4×4, 6×6, 8×8, 10×10 & 12×12, for various applications and operational requirements of the Indian Armed Forces.
