Shares of the leading hospital chain company, Apollo Hospital, were trading in the green and 3% higher on 31 May after the company announced its quarterly earnings for January-March. 

The company in its quarterly earnings reported a 77.5% year-on-year increase to Rs 258 crore for the quarter from Rs146 crore reported in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. 

Revenue from operations during the quarter stood at Rs 4,944 crore, a 15% YoY increase from Rs 4,302 crore reported during the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year. 

The earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) during the quarter was up 31.2% YoY to Rs 614 crore against Rs 488 crore reported in Q4FY23. The EBITDA margins expanded by 170 basis points to 13% for Q4FY24 against 11.3% in Q4FY23.

The company’s net profit during the year-ago period was heavily affected due to the losses it incurs for scaling up its online business – Apollo HealthCo. However, the reduced losses in Apollo HealthCo not only helped boost the company’s bottom line but also assisted in its operational performance. 

Apollo HealthCo has also signed a binding agreement with private equity investor Advent International to raise Rs 2,475 crore ($300 million). 

The Board of Directors of Apollo Hospital have also recommended a final dividend of Rs 10 per share for the fiscal year 2023-24 and has fixed 17 August 2024 as the recorded date for the dividend. 

The company’s hospital business reported an occupancy rate of 6% during the quarter from 64% during the year-ago quarter, whereas the Average Revenue Per Occupied Bed (ARPOB) grew 12% YoY to Rs 59,523.
