Andhra Pradesh government declared that it would honour Tokyo Olympics Bronze medalist PV Sindhu with a cash prize of Rs 30 lakhs when returning to India. PV Sindhu made history as the first woman from India to win two back-to-back medals.
As per the Badminton Association of India, she is the only athlete to win two medals back-to-back. The first athlete was Wrestler Sushil Kumar, who won two awards in consecutive in 2008 Beijing and 2012 London.
PV Sindhu earlier had won a silver in the 2016 Rio Olympics. India’s PV Sindhu won against China’s He Bingjiao, bagging her a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on August 1. President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated her on Twitter.
