From 17 August (Today), milk prices increased as leading milk suppliers named Amul and Mother Dairy prices hiked by Rs 2 per litre on account of rising input costs. Within six months, the price rose for the second time in both brands.
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells milk and other dairy products under the Amul brand, said that “it has decided to increase the milk prices by Rs 2 per litre in Ahmedabad and Saurashtra of Gujarat, Delhi-NCR, West Bengal, Mumbai and other markets.”
“This price hike is being done due to an increase in an overall cost of operation and milk production. The cattle feeding cost alone has increased to approximately 20 per cent compared to last year. Considering the rise in input costs, our member unions have also increased farmers’ prices in the range of 8-9 per cent over the previous year,” GCMMF said.
The consumer pays almost 80 paise of every rupee for milk and milk products to the milk producer. The price revision helps sustain remunerative milk prices for our milk producers and encourages them to produce higher milk products.
Mother Dairy has announced separately that it will hike milk prices in the Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) by Rs 2 per litre on 17 August 2022. In Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Delhi-NCR, the price of double-toned milk Amul brand increased to Rs 44 and Rs 46 per litre, respectively.
Over 150 lakhs litre of milk sold per day and out of total quantity, as per GCMMF. Nearly 40 lakhs litre per day in Delhi-NCR accounts. The world’s largest milk producer country is ‘India’.
