Amazon India, the largest online retailer in the nation, announced on Wednesday, 7 August that it has partnered with more than 45 government stores, non-governmental organisations, and trade associations in India to help underprivileged weaving communities gain access to markets and bridge the gap between artists and consumers.

The e-commerce giant said, “Customers can shop for over 1.5 lakh products featured from 25 states depicting regional various crafts of India. Amazon will also launch a showcase of selection from over 35 State emporiums including Biswa Bangla, Panthoibi, Garvi Gurjari, House of Himalayas and more.”

The announcement states that over 2,500 master weavers, cooperatives, artisans, and government agencies under different ministries, including Textiles, Cottage Industries, and Tribal Welfare, have been added to Amazon for online sales.

Additionally, Amazon stated that its yearly Amazon Karigar program helps local sellers list and sell their goods online to a wider customer base, facilitating the resurgence of Indigenous arts and crafts.
