Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals has licensed the manufacture and commercialisation of bempedoic acid, a lipid-lowering drug for heart disease patients.
Orally administered by statin-intolerant patients, bempedoic acid is a novel drug used to treat high LDL cholesterol conditions indicative of cardiovascular disease.

“An estimated 112 million Indian adults have high LDL cholesterol levels, and large numbers of dyslipidemia patients receiving statin therapy continue to experience uncontrolled dyslipidemia for these patients, bebedoic acid is a silver lining,” Director Sandeep Jain said.
