To reclaim its position in International aviation, Air India plans to introduce twenty additional weekly flights to London, Birmingham, and San Francisco from October to December.
In a statement, Air India stated that they are about to introduce five additional flights a week to Birmingham, nine additional flights to London, and six additional flights a week to San Francisco. With this, Air India would be able to offer over 5,000 additional seats weekly to the customers.
The airline also claimed the flights from India to the US would increase from 34 to 40 weekly. This would connect Mumbai with San Francisco with thrice-weekly service and reinstate three times weekly.
Campbell Wilson, CEO & Managing Director of Air India, stated that Air India reinvents itself under the Vihaan.AI transformation program, adding frequency and improving connectivity from major Indian cities to more international destinations is a significant focus. Further, he said that after just ten months of Tata Group’s acquisition of Air India, the sizeable frequency increased to the US and the UK in the addition of new city pairs and improved aircraft cabin interiors.
Air India has been leasing new aircraft and working on restoring existing wide-body and narrow-body aircraft to the operating fleet. In January 2022, after 69 years of government-owned enterprise, namely Air India Express and Air India was acquired by Tata Group.
