Adani Power’s 800 MW Thermal Unit in Jharkhand Commences Commercial Operation

Adani Power announced the commencement of an 800 MW unit at their thermal plant in Jharkhand.

On Friday, Adani Power Ltd (APL) announced that the commercial operation of an 800 MW unit at their thermal plant in Jharkhand had begun commercial operations. The Adani Group subsidiary also said that another 1600 MW unit is in its final stages of completion and will commence soon.

Adani Power (Jharkhand) Limited (APJL), a subsidiary of Adani Power, has announced the commercial operation of the first unit of its 2×800 MW ultra-supercritical power project in Godda, Jharkhand. The 800 MW unit is the second to be commissioned at the site, with the first unit having a capacity of 660 MW. The Godda power plant is one of India’s largest thermal power plants, and the commissioning of the new unit will increase Adani Power’s total installed capacity.

According to the company, APJL will supply power to the Bangladesh Power Development Board under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a net capacity of 748 MW from the first unit. The PPA agreement is a long-term contract between the power generator and the purchaser, which guarantees the sale of power at a predetermined price over a specified period. This agreement will ensure a stable electricity supply to Bangladesh, which has a growing energy demand.

APJL has also started processing its claims under the PPA from April 6, 2023. This means the company has begun submitting bills and invoices to the Bangladesh Power Development Board for the power supplied from the first unit. The commencement of commercial operations of the first unit is a significant milestone for APJL and Adani Power. It reinforces their commitment to providing reliable and sustainable power to meet the energy needs of India and its neighbours.
