Tata Digital Invests Rs 10 Cr in Govt’s Grameen e-Store

Tata Digital has reported that it has invested Rs 10 crore in the government’s rural e-commerce venture, Grameen e-Store. The company has purchased an undisclosed stake and will be getting a seat on the CSC Grameen e-Store’s Board.
The development comes at a time when the Indian multinational conglomerate is preparing to launch ‘Super App’ which will combine the Tata group’s consumer offerings on a single platform. The group’s digital arm operates the e-commerce platform Tata CLiQ, online grocery store StarQuik, and online electronics platform Croma. The company’s new app will compete against rival businesses such as Reliance and Amazon, among others.
CSC Grameen e-Store Pvt Ltd. is also in talks with HDFC Bank for a possible stake sale. Grameen e-Store has also on-boarded products of PepsiCo and Coca-Cola. PepsiCo’s snack brands such as Lay’s, Kurkure, and Uncle Chipps are also available on its platform.
Under the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), common service centers (CSC) run the hyperlocal online marketplace. It was launched in April 2020 and so far, posted a turnover of Rs 120 crore.
