Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Crosses 40 Lakh Cumulative Production Milestone

On Saturday, Country’s auto major Tata Motors Ltd. said that its passenger vehicle segment has crossed cumulative production milestone of 40 lakh, in nearly three decades after rolling its model in the segment, Tata Sierra SUV in 1991. 
Over the year, Tata Motors has produced models like the Indica, Sierra, Sumo, Safari and Nano. The company has also achieved the production mark of 10 lakh units for the passenger vehicle segment in 2005-2006 and 30 lakh unit milestone in 2015. It took its first shot at the SUV segment in India with its Sierra model and further consolidated it with the Safari.
“This is a very significant milestone for Tata Motors. Very few players in the industry have reached such a milestone. This has been a long journey since we rolled out Tata Sierra in 1991,” said Shailesh Chandra, President Passenger Vehicles Business Unit (PVBU), Tata Motors. The company has always been challenging the conventions and brought many time path breaking products firstly in the market like the Sierra, Estate, Safari, Indica and Nano, he said.
Tata Motors has been focusing not only on the safety aspects but also leading the electric vehicle space in the country and is the largest electric vehicle manufacturer with a market share of 67 per cent. Currently, the company sells five BSVI compliant models including the Tiago, Tigor, Nexon, Harrier and Altroz. It has its manufacturing unit at Chikhali in Pune and Sanand in Gujarat. The company also have a joint venture plant with Fiat at Ranjangaon in Pune.
