The government has lowered interest rates on small saving schemes, including NSC and PPF by 0.2% point for the Jan-March period from the rates applicable in the previous quarter.
Investments in the 5 year Senior Citizens Savings Scheme has been kept at 8.3%. Interest on savings deposits have been retained at 4% annually.
Further, PPF and NSC will provide a lower annual rate of 7.6% and KVP will give 7.3% interest and mature in 11 months. The girl child savings scheme Sukanya Samriddhi Account will offer 8.1% from current 8.3% annually.
