Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO) Limited,which is located in state’s Korba district,has received notice from The Chhattisgarh Environment Conversation Board(CGECB,for closure of its 1200 MW thermal power plant,after major breach in its ash dam wall.
The notice is for the closure which is given to plant management, mentioning that ash slurry water from the damaged ash dam is polluting water of Belgiri nullah(canal) passing near the plant that drains into Hasdeo river.
According to the information, Ash Dam No.6, collapsed and thousand tones ash slurry drained into Belgiri canal passing near the plant. Moreover, water of Hasdeo river is mostly used for irrigation and at some place for drinking purpose.
