The government has initiated the process of acquiring 1,000 surveillance helicopters for high-altitude operations under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
These helicopters will operate up to 5,500 meters in various weather conditions in mountainous terrain, both day and night.
The Request for Information (RFI) aims to finalise technical requirements, decide the procurement category, and identify Indian vendors capable of supplying them.
The helicopters will feature a modular design, allowing future upgrades without major structural changes.
Additionally, the Indian Army plans to procure 50 heavy crawler rock drills to support road construction and infrastructure development in challenging terrains.
These drills will assist in cutting roads, drilling hard rock formations, and quarry operations, crucial for military movement in Northern, Eastern, and Central Commands.
