In a joint statement, digital infrastructure giant Equinix Inc. and renewable energy startup CleanMax announced that they had inked an agreement to build 33 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy power projects in the nation.
The parties have agreed to establish the captive power project in Maharashtra.
“Equinix partners with CleanMax to develop 33 MW captive renewable power projects to decarbonise its data centres in India,” the joint statement said.
The captive power installations have 6.6 MW of wind and 26.4 MWp of solar capacity and will be put into service gradually.
The businesses withheld all project financial information.
Including the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the 33 MW plant in India, Equinix now has 23 PPAs in place worldwide.
With these agreements in place, local grids in the US, Australia, France, Finland, India, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Singapore should receive over 3,100,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy per year.
