On Sunday, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar stated that India remains confident and is not “nervous” about Donald Trump’s return to the White House after his victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 US presidential elections.

At the Aditya Birla Group Scholarships Silver Jubilee event in Mumbai, EAM Jaishankar said India is still active about the US, unlike other countries.

When discussing global power shifts, Jaishankar acknowledged a shift from the West to the East, citing India as an example with its growing economic weight, corporate reach, and professional presence worldwide.

Jaishankar said the global power shift was inevitable as post-colonial nations gained independence and made their own policy choices, leading to growth.

He emphasised that Western economies still hold substantial influence as major markets, investment hubs, and technology and innovation centres, urging a balanced view of the global power shift.

Jaishankar highlighted PM Modi’s ability to build strong relations with multiple US Presidents, positively impacting Indo-US ties.

He noted that PM Modi has connected well with US Presidents Obama, Trump, and Biden, showcasing his natural skill in forging relationships, which has been a great advantage for India.

After Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 US presidential election, PM Modi congratulated him in a phone call on 6th November, praising the Republican Party’s success in Congress.

PM Modi recalled key moments in their relationship, like the Howdy Modi event in 2019 and Namaste Trump in 2020, and expressed eagerness to renew collaboration to strengthen India-US ties for global peace and prosperity.
