Reliance Brands Ltd has strengthened its partnership with Mothercare Plc by forming a joint venture (JV) that will own the Mothercare brand and its intellectual property assets across India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. This follows Reliance’s acquisition of the brand’s rights in India in 2018.

The new partnership involves Reliance Brands Holding UK Ltd (RBL UK), a subsidiary of Reliance Brands Ltd, taking a 51% stake in the joint venture, while Mothercare Global Brand Ltd will retain a 49% stake. RBL UK will acquire its share for £16 million in cash. 

Acting as the franchisor of the Mothercare brand in the region, the joint venture aims to unlock new growth opportunities by leveraging both companies’ expertise in retail and brand management, according to a joint statement on October 17.

Currently, Reliance Brands operates 87 stores across 25 cities in India, along with a significant presence on e-commerce platforms.
