Maruti Suzuki is set to export electric vehicles (EVs) from India to Europe and Japan, according to MD and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi. The high-spec EV will feature a 500 km range and a 60 kilowatt-hour battery, as revealed during the 64th annual SIAM session.
The company will focus on increasing customer confidence across all products, services, and communications, according to Takeuchi. He highlighted the need for a strong manufacturing sector to create jobs and help elevate India to a developed nation.
The company plans to offer a range of solutions to address EV ownership concerns and will leverage its network to provide strong after-sales support. They are aiming to use various technologies to reduce carbon emissions, including EVs, hybrids, biofuels, and hydrogen.
He also highlighted India’s potential in biofuels, noting that the country has abundant natural resources that can be converted into low-carbon or carbon-negative biofuels. He believes India could become a global leader in biofuels, suggesting that India can develop unique solutions rather than copying those from other countries.
The company is planning to significantly increase its exports by 2030, aiming for “multiples of growth” rather than just percentage increases. Their exports are currently thrice in comparison to four years ago and are expected to triple again in the next six years.
They have started exporting vehicles to Japan, with the Fronx SUV being the first consignment of over 1,600 vehicles shipped from Pipavav port. Exports have risen by 1,85,774 units between FY21 and FY24. The company is focused on deep localisation to reduce import dependence and enhance self-reliance in the value chain.
