EaseMyTrip, India’s second-largest travel portal announced that they are working on developing an electric bus prototype, aiming to launch the project by the next financial year.
The company had announced plans to enter bus manufacturing on 5 September, with an initial facility to produce 2,000 units, which will be scaled up to 5,000 buses over the next two years.
EaseMyTrip, which operates an online bus ticketing platform called Yolobus, is expanding into bus manufacturing to support this business. According to CEO Manoj Soni, the company plans to begin deploying electric buses by FY27, catering to both in-house operations and external clients.
Sona added, “We have our tech and R&D teams in place, and we will scale up after an initial investment of Rs 200 crore.”
EaseMyTrip recognizes significant growth potential in the electric vehicle (EV) bus ecosystem and aims to diversify into bus manufacturing. CEO Manoj Soni confirmed the company will apply for government support under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for EVs.
While the bus and train ticketing business currently contributes less than 2% of revenue, the non-air travel segment, including trains and buses, saw a 36.9% year-on-year growth in transactions in Q1FY25.
The company plans to expand its non-airline business further as part of its growth strategy.
