Enerpoly, a manufacturer of zinc-ion battery cell technology based in Sweden, has inaugurated the world’s primary mega factory of zinc-ion batteries in Sweden to advance the global shift to clean energy. This comes after the company invested USD 8.4 million in 2023.

The Enerpoly Production Innovation Centre (EPIC), spanning 6,500m² (70,000ft²) and located in Rosersberg in northern Stockholm, is set to achieve an eventual capacity output of 100 MegaWatt hour (MWh) annually by 2026, with production commencing in 2025.

The mega factory will enable the collaborative development of market-ready battery solutions with customers and facilitate large-scale pilots targeting commercial, industrial, and utility applications.

By establishing the mega factory and employing a 100% European supply chain, Enerpoly underscores Europe’s progress in becoming a dominant force in zinc-ion technology. Additionally, it highlights Sweden’s leadership in clean energy innovation and lays the groundwork for Enerpoly’s plans for zinc-ion giga factory production.

According to Enerpoly CEO Eloisa de Castro, the new manufacturing facility represents a significant moment in their quest to revolutionise the energy industry. With EPIC, their primary focus is on driving sustainable innovation and meeting the increasing demand for renewable energy storage.

Expanding their production capabilities will enable them to deliver pioneering deployments in partnership with utilities and battery system integrators across Europe and globally.

Enerpoly, founded in 2018 in Stockholm by Eloisa de Castro, Mylad Chamoun, and Samer Nameer, harnesses zinc-ion battery technology, which offers an effective energy storage solution to complement renewable energy generation.

This is due to its affordability, sustainability, and resilient supply chain, especially when compared to the more common lithium-ion battery technology, utilising geographically constrained materials.

This technology addresses the critical requirement in Europe to scale up the production and development of battery technologies rapidly. Enerpoly’s patented zinc-ion battery technology uses zinc and manganese, which are globally available, cost-effective, and recyclable raw materials from Europe.
