Real-time flood forecasts from 592 monitoring stations across the country are now accessible through the new FloodWatch India 2.0 app. This initiative aims to enhance public safety amid severe flooding caused by the surplus monsoon. Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil launched the app on Tuesday to provide a comprehensive view of flood conditions nationwide.

The new app will offer storage levels for 150 major reservoirs, which are crucial for drinking, irrigation, and power generation, to the public. Previously, flood forecasts were available from 200 stations.

The app will also provide advanced information on potential flooding extent and forecasts for downstream areas of the monitored reservoirs, helping the public make informed evacuation decisions.

This app provides real-time flood information and forecasts in easy-to-understand formats to help people grasp the level and nature of alerts.

Developed by the Central Water Commission for both Android and Apple devices, the app uses satellite data, mathematical modelling, and real-time monitoring for accurate flood forecasts. It offers information in English and Hindi, available in both readable and audio formats.
