Gruner Renewable Energy, based in Noida, is a leader in sustainable biogas solutions in India. The company has raised Rs 502.24 crores (USD 60 million) in funding to expand its presence in the green energy domain and establish new Compressed bio-gas (CBG) plants nationwide. 

The company aims to enhance its research and development efforts to contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of energy independence and sustainability for India.

The CEO, Utkarsh Gupta, highlighted the importance of establishing CBG plants in India to foster a self-reliant and sustainable future. Utkarsh mentioned that the Union Budget 2023-24 announcement to develop 500 new waste-to-wealth plants under the GOBARdhan initiative has significantly boosted the sector.

Gruner Renewable Energy plans to use the funding to improve its operations and market presence by introducing breakthrough technology and highly efficient processes into the biogas industry. 

The company also aims to expand its business, establish new biogas plants, scale-up CNG retail outlets, and explore new business opportunities in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and green hydrogen.

The company was established in February 2023 and is dedicated to reducing carbon footprints and achieving sustainability objectives using advanced German technology.

According to Utkarsh, encouraging the cultivation of energy crops through direct subsidies and financial incentives for farmers is essential. This approach supports the agricultural sector, ensures a steady supply of feedstock for biogas production, and promotes sustainable farming practices.
