India and UK To Take Initiative To Work Together For Defining Technology of this Decade

The Initiative aims to expand collaboration in critical and emerging technologies across priority sectors.

The UK and India have agreed on a new Technology Security Initiative to collaborate on important technologies like telecom, critical minerals, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence. The Initiative will strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on boosting economic growth in both countries.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced the Initiative during his visit to India, where he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior Indian officials. The Initiative aims to expand collaboration in critical and emerging technologies across priority sectors.

The agreement aims to deepen the partnership between the two countries and build on existing collaborations in government, industry, and academia. It also includes a new GBP 7 million funding call for Future Telecoms research as part of the India-UK science, technology, and innovation partnership.

The UK Foreign Secretary emphasised the importance of the UK-India relationship and assured the British government would prioritise growth in its foreign policy. The Initiative will focus on challenges like AI and critical minerals to unlock innovation and boost investment.

In addition to the technology initiative, the UK and India will deepen their partnership on addressing the climate crisis by collaborating on green energy partnerships and mobilising finance for clean growth opportunities. The cooperation will also focus on empowering women and building resilient cities of the future.
