Larsen and Toubro (L&T) on Monday 8 July announced that its renewable subsidiary has secured a ‘mega’ order for developing two gigawatt (GW) scale solar PV plants that will have a combined capacity of 3.5 GW with a leading developer in the Middle East.
The order has been classified as “mega” that falls under the Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 crore category.
The scope of the orders will also include grid interconnections, such as pooling substations and overhead transmission lines. The company stated that detailed engineering and initial construction work will commence shortly.
Last month, the company announced securing an order for a solar and storage plant in India. With the addition of these new mega orders from the Middle East, the company’s renewables portfolio is set to reach a cumulative capacity of 22 GWp, including both solar and wind generation projects that are either already commissioned or under development, L&T said.
T Madhava Das, the whole-time director and senior executive vice-president (utilities) at L&T, said, “The successive order wins stands testimony to our proven engineering and project management capabilities to meet the requirements in terms of plant performance, workforce mobilisation, safety, quality and timeline.”
SN Subrahmanyan, the company’s chairman and managing director said that the Middle East is far ahead of other regions in the development of smart lifestyles and sustainable energy infrastructure. “These orders are welcome additions to our green portfolio, as we build the company of the future with next generation technologies,” he said.
For the eighth phase of the pipeline replacement project off the west coast of India, ONGC Ltd. placed an order with the company’s energy hydrocarbon vertical last week. According to L&T, the order is worth between ₹1,000 and ₹2,500 crore, which is why it was classified as “significant”.
