Hubballi Railway Station in Karnataka has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest railway platform in the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 1,507-meter-long platform on Sunday.

The platform, which costs around Rs 20 crore to build, is part of the renovation of the Hubballi yard to meet the growing demand for more trains in the Hubballi-Dharwad region of Karnataka in the future. The official name of Hubballi Railway Station is Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Station.

Southern Railway said the platform could simultaneously send or receive two trains in both directions. Guinness World Records said it verified the length of the platform on January 12.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi also initiated the electrification of the Hosapete-Hubballi-Tinaighat section and the upgrade of the Hosapete station to facilitate connectivity in the area.

The electrification project, developed at more than Rs 530 crore, will enable seamless train operation under electric traction. The redeveloped Hosapete Station will provide travellers with convenient and modern facilities. Its design is similar to the Hampi Monuments, officials said.
