Unite has announced a strike action, marking the first strike by British steel workers in 40 years.

Tata Steel has signed an MoU with the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), a component of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), to collaborate on research, academic development and sustainable solutions for the mining industry.

The MoU was signed here on Tuesday by D B Sundara Ramam, Tata Steel’s vice-president for raw materials, and Prof. R. Pradeep Kumar, director of the CBRI, the company press release said.

Under the agreement, CBRI will provide Tata Steel with scientific input in mine site slope stability analysis and control measures, as well as mine site reconstruction and affordable, sustainable green housing technologies for families.

The partnership will also include technical training and workshops in geotechnical understanding and other mining-related science areas, the release said.
