ISRO Successfully Launches 200th Consecutive RH200 Sounding Rocket

ISRO's versatile sounding rocket RH200 has registered its 200th consecutive successful launch from Thiruvananthapuram's Thumba coast.

ISRO‘s multipurpose sounding rocket RH200 made its 200th consecutive successful launch from Thiruvananthapuram’s Thumba coast on Wednesday.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) called it a “historic moment”. Former President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation S Somanath and others witnessed this process. The successful flight of the RH200 took off from the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launch Station (TERLS).

“The scientific community uses Indian sounding rockets as a privileged tool for conducting experiments in similar branches of meteorology, astronomy and space physics,” said an ISRO statement.

Activities such as Equatorial Electrojet (EEJ), Leonid Meteor Shower (LMS), Indian Middle Atmosphere Program (IMAP), Monsoon Experiment (MONEX), Middle Atmospheric Dynamics (MIDAS) and Sooryagrahan-2010 have been conducted using sounding rocket platforms. For example, the scientific exploration of the Earth’s atmosphere.

According to the national space agency based here, the Rohini sounding rockets (RSR) have been the forerunner of ISRO’s heavier, more complex launch vehicles and continue to be used for atmospheric and meteorological research to this day.

“The 200th consecutive successful flight is a testament to Indian rocket scientists’ commitment to unmatched reliability over the years,” it said.
