On Monday, BYD, the electric vehicle manufacturer, signed a framework agreement with Castrosua, a bus and coach assembly specialist. The agreement establishes a cooperative partnership to build electric buses for the Spanish market.
The BYD-Castrosua 12-metre eBuses would be built on the BYD chassis with an electric powertrain and incorporate the Castrosua NELEC body to avail high-calibre electric transport solutions for Spanish customers.
Javier Contijoch, the Vice President of Sales of BYD Europe eBus , said that it is an honour for BYD to bring the world’s leading technology to Spain and start the partnership with Castrosua.
BYD highly values its local partnerships, and the tailor-made eBuses must be manufactured locally in Spain.
He asserted that BYD firmly believes in the benefits of cooperation to accelerate the transition to electrification. It welcomes the opportunity to partner with other respected European bus bodywork specialists. Santiago de Compostela-based Castrosua started as a family business and has produced bus and coach bodies for over 70 years.
Founded in 1948, Castrosua has facilities with more than 80,000 square meters located in Santiago de Compostela, VillagarcĂa de Arosa, and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The first BYD-Castrosua 12-metre eBus is already under development and will soon be available under CE regulations.
