Adani Logistics has acquired the ‘Tumb’ inland container depot (ICD) in Vapi (Gujarat) from Navkar Corporation for Rs 835 crore. One of India’s largest inland container depots, ICD Tumb, is located between Hazira port, Gujarat and the Nhava Sheva port, Mumbai. It has a capacity of 0.5 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units). That means Adani Logistics acquires the operational inland container depot with a capacity to handle 5 lakh 20-foot equivalent units.
The company reported that the deal is subject to lenders’ approvals and customary regulations and is expected to close in the second quarter of 2022-23. Adani Logistics is a subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Founded in 2005, the acquisition of ICD is in line with its strategy to build integrated transport utility and pan-Indian logistics.
Adani Logistics said that the Tumb ICD has a private freight terminal with four rail handling lines connected with Western DFC (Dedicated Freight Corridor). It also has custom notified land and bonded warehouse facilities.
Adani Ports has six ports and terminals on the east coast of India. These include Dhamra in Odisha, Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram and Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, and Ennore and Kattupalli in Tamilnadu. It possesses six ports and terminals on the west coast. These are Mundra, Tuna, Dahej, and Hazira in Gujarat, Dighi in Maharashtra and Mormugao in Goa. All these ports are strategically located.
The company is reportedly building two transhipment ports at Colombo, Sri Lanka and Vizhinjam, Kerala.
