Google has introduced a new website ‘Read Along’ for helping kids in learning to read independently with the help of an animated reading assistant called “Diya”.
Read Along was formerly known as Bolo, which was released in India in March, 2019. Next year, it was later released globally as Read Along.
Tech Giant has reported that public beta of the website version has been launched to make it accessible to more users. Available in many Indian languages, it basically uses text-to-speech technology, through which Diya reads the story. It also incorporates speech-to-text technology, which mechanically identifies the matches between the text and the reading of the user.
Through the web version, parents can let their children use Read Along on larger screens by logging into a browser from smartphones, laptops or PCs. Just like the app, all the speech recognition processes works in the browser. This ensure that children’s voice data remains private and is not sent to any other servers.
