Bigspoon Raises Rs 100 Crore From IAN, NB Ventures

Cloud kitchen startup Bigspoon has raised Rs 100 crore in a funding round from IAN along with NB Ventures, Go-Ventures, Lets Venture, Grip Invest and Anicut Capital, the company said on August 9.

Bollywood actor and investor Mouni Roy also participated in this financing round and will participate in brand incubation and endorsements.

Bigspoon aims to expand to more than 250 kitchens in 75 cities across the country. It will also use the funds to recruit for leadership positions, invest in technology for customers, and perform backward integration for efficient production and supply chains.

Founded in 2019 by Mathrani and Poojan Thakkar, Bigspoon is a multi-brand, omnichannel cloud kitchen company focused on small cities.

The Ahmedabad-based company has also introduced innovations in food manufacturing, menu selection and packaging, using fresh rather than frozen food as ingredients.

Bigspoon has 80 kitchens in 16 states and more than 35 cities, serving more than 1,50,000 diners each month.
According to Bigspoon, it has nine brands, including Zakir Khan’s Mehfil Biryani, Makhni Brothers, Thali Central and Meals101, covering a wide range of cuisines and menu options.

“The concept of cloud kitchens in India is still in its early stages, and Bigspoon, with its expertise, has the right knowledge to revolutionize the industry.

“This will fill a gap in the still underserved and underpenetrated secondary and tertiary markets. The funding will be a catalyst for Bigspoon’s goal of expanding its network in India,” said IAN lead investor Sanjiv Bajaj. Cloud Kitchen prepares takeaways and has no dine-in facilities or walk-in customers. The startup said it plans to launch two new brands and at least 150 new kitchens by the end of the fiscal year.
