Coal India, the world’s largest coal miner, said in a statement that it had issued a tender to import 2.42 million tonnes by the end of September due to shortage concerns, the company said in a statement.
The state-owned mining company, which has little experience importing coal, was ordered by the Power Ministry last month to ship from overseas. According to the tender documents, the company is seeking deliveries of the power station.
On Saturday, the company will again issue tenders for deliveries between July 2022 and June 2023.
These states have requested a total of 2.4 million tonnes of coal, with some states such as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka offering to import coal themselves.
