Lakshadweep Islands will soon strengthen mobile network connectivity as the Ministry of Telecom, under the Ministry of Communication, has approved a telecom development package worth Rs 61 crore, which includes new 4G towers and the laying of 225 km of fibre internet connections.

The Lakshadweep government said on May 27 that the Union government had approved the Kochi-Lakshadweep subsea fibre-optic connection project, which is scheduled to be completed by October 2023.
“With this, Lakshadweep’s bandwidth will increase from 1.71 Gbps of available bandwidth to 100 Gbps,” the government said. The development kit includes:
The installation of 18 new 4G mobile tower sites.
The upgrade of 19 existing 2G sites to 4G service.
The laying of 225 km of fiber provides fiber to the island’s home connectivity.
