Sony is looking to add new technology partners to its electric vehicles (EVs) project to help it build a mobility business to transform cars from machines to entertainment spaces, media reports said. The current shift to EVs is allowing new entrants into vehicle manufacturing. At the same time, autonomous driving and 5G connectivity are rebuilding the auto industry by transforming cars into mobile platforms for information and entertainment and shared mobility services.
Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida at the CES 2022 in Las Vegas announced the formation of Sony Mobility, saying that it will try to turn an EV development project started two years ago into a money-making venture. So far, Sony has built two prototypes with a factory in Austria owned by Magna International, which also makes cars for companies like BMW, Mercedes Benz and Toyota Motor Corp.
